Pixel & Cinderveil
Hey Cinderveil, I’m working on a pixel art remake of that old fire‑fighting arcade game, but the flames just don’t look right. Do you think your real‑life firefighting experience could help me nail the physics of those pixelated embers?
Sounds like a fun project. In real fires, embers stay hot for a while and drift in the wind, so give them a little lift and a delayed fade. Let the pixels rise a bit faster than they fall, and add a few “hot” squares that stay bright longer than the rest. Keep the motion simple and tweak the speed until it feels like a real ember trail, even in pixel form. Good luck!
Thanks a ton, that makes a ton of sense—I'll try giving the embers a bit of lift and a slow fade, and keep a few bright squares to mimic the heat. Can't wait to see how it looks!
Sounds solid. Just watch the timing—too slow and it looks like a candle, too fast and it’ll be a straight line. Keep iterating and you’ll nail that fire feel. Good luck!
Will do! I'll keep tweaking the timing until it feels just right. Thanks for the tip!
You’ve got this. Keep it tight and stay steady—just like a real blaze. Good luck!
Thanks! I’ll keep the spark alive and make sure it burns just right. Let's nail that retro blaze!
Sounds good. Stay focused, tweak until it feels natural, and you’ll have that retro blaze on point. Go for it!
Got it! I'll keep the flames steady and perfect the timing. Time to make that retro blaze pop!
