Hey Kardan, you ever had to rebuild a 1975 Triumph Bonneville? That valve spring tension thing is a pain but getting it to idle smooth is a real win.
Kardan Kardan
Yeah, I’ve been through that one a few times. Those old Triumphs love a good feel‑check on the valve springs – if the tension’s off the idle can suck or chatter. I usually pull the cam, torque the springs with a feeler gauge, then re‑assemble and let it run a few minutes to see the idle settle. A light hand and a good torque spec on the valve screws is key. If it still whines, double‑check the timing chain and make sure the rocker arm is properly adjusted. Once it idles smooth, you’ll feel the whole bike breathe easier.

Sounds solid. Just keep an eye on that rocker arm clearance – a millimeter off and you’re back to a whine. If it’s still jittering, I’d dig into the cam profile; sometimes a worn cam can bite in the idle zone. After that, run it hard for a minute or two to get the feel. That’s all you need.
Kardan Kardan
Sounds good, thanks for the tip. I’ll check the rocker arm next and make sure the cam isn’t slipping. Will keep the idle run test in mind to catch any quirks early. Appreciate it!
Chopper Chopper
Nice. Keep it tight, keep it clean. Let me know if anything else bites.
Kardan Kardan
Got it, will keep the job tight and clean. If anything else crops up, I’ll holler. Thanks!
Chopper Chopper
Alright, good luck. If you hit a snag, just drop me a line.
