Camper & Klymor
Hey, I’ve been mapping goat trails and rating moss softness on a 5‑point scale – it’s the only thing that keeps me out of trouble on the backcountry. I wonder if moss could serve as a reliable marker for tracking animals or even clues in a wilderness forensic case. What’s your take on using natural growth as a digital breadcrumb trail?
Moss can hint at a timeline, but it’s a fickle marker. Its growth changes with light, moisture and temperature, so you can’t count on it alone. If you need a breadcrumb trail you’ll want something with a predictable decay rate or a chemical signature that sticks around. Use moss as a side note, not the main evidence.
Sounds about right. I’ll keep my moss scores on the side, but trust a little pine resin or a damp rock mark when I need a reliable breadcrumb trail. Thanks for the heads‑up!
Glad it helped. Stick to the things that actually leave a record, not the moss. Good luck on the trail.
Got it, no moss in the evidence kit. I’ll stick to resin, stone marks, and my trusty water filter for the trail. Thanks for the heads‑up, and happy hiking!
