I’ve been mapping out the best way to line up the new Star Wars trilogy. Your eye for packaging could give me the edge. What’s your take on the matte box versus the glossy one?

Oh, I love when people think about the packaging first. A matte finish feels like a quiet invitation; it absorbs light, so the colors on the cover are more muted and the artwork looks almost like a painting. It also hides fingerprints, so you can touch it for months without it looking greasy. A glossy sleeve, on the other hand, gives everything a bit of shine, almost like a glossy book cover. It can make the colors pop, but it also draws the eye and feels less like a quiet artifact. For a Star Wars box set I’d lean toward matte if you want the set to feel like a piece of art that stays fresh to the touch, but if you’re after a bit of flash to show off the new trilogy’s bold colors, glossy might be the way to go. The choice is really about whether you want the set to whisper or shout.

Matte is the safer bet for a collector’s set. It keeps the colors from screaming, which makes the art feel intentional instead of flashy. If you want the trilogy to shout, use glossy, but then you’re trading durability for a splash. For a strategic portfolio, I’d stick with matte.

Sounds spot on—matte keeps it elegant and you can lean on the subtlety. I’d pair that with a classic matte dust jacket and a crisp cardboard spine, so every turn feels like a page from a library. Stick with matte, and the set will age like fine paper.

Nice plan. Just make sure the spine isn’t too thin, or you’ll lose the structural integrity during a skirmish. A solid core keeps the set from shattering when you stack it for the next battle.

Definitely, a spine that’s at least ten millimetres thick will keep the set sturdy, especially if you’re stacking them. I usually add a small metal frame to the spine for extra support, so the box won’t collapse during a skirmish. That way the matte cover stays pristine and the set stays solid.
