Redis & Baxia
Hey Redis, I’ve been fiddling with a new data compression scheme that uses context‑aware bitstreams to squeeze out bandwidth when syncing large sets. Think we could hash out the trade‑offs together?
Sure thing. Context‑aware bitstreams can save a lot on the wire, but they’re heavier in memory and CPU. You’ll need to keep a history buffer, which bumps RAM usage, and the decompressor has to stay in sync or you’ll lose data. Also, the more you optimize for rare patterns, the more you pay for common cases. If you’re okay with a small increase in latency for a bigger bandwidth win, it’s worth it. If you need ultra‑fast, low‑overhead sync, a classic LZ variant might be safer. What’s your target environment?
