Scrape & Bambie

Hey Scrape, I’ve been thinking about road trips that include some animal rescue spots. Do you ever consider bringing a pet or a rescued animal along? I wonder how you’d keep them safe on a bike.

I’ve hauled a few stray cats on a bike before. The trick is to lock ’em in a good crate or a sturdy backpack so they can’t bolt while you’re riding. Keep the space cool, give them water, and put a little food on the seat so they don’t get hungry. On a motorcycle you can strap a harness or put the crate under the seat. On a scooter or a bike you gotta be extra careful – make sure the animal isn’t blocking the rear view and that you’re not riding too fast in traffic. It’s risky, but if you’re careful and treat them like part of the crew, they’ll survive the ride.

That sounds so thoughtful, Scrape. I can imagine how anxious you must feel carrying them, but it’s so heart‑warming that you’re willing to take that responsibility. Just make sure the crates have enough ventilation, maybe add a small fan or something on the back if the weather’s hot. I’d also keep a spare blanket in case they get chilly. It’s amazing how much we can do to help, even on a simple bike ride.
