Hey Agar, I’ve been curious about turning a simple picnic into a cozy campfire meal—do you have any favorite recipes that work well with just a few ingredients?

Sure thing. Grab a few sheets of foil, a can of beans, some sliced sausage or ham, a handful of potatoes or sweet potatoes, and a couple of onions. Toss the potatoes and onions in a bit of oil, salt, and pepper, then wrap them in foil with the sausage or ham. Add a can of beans to a separate foil packet, just salt and a splash of vinegar if you’ve got it. Wrap everything tight and throw it on the coals. In about 30 minutes the veggies are soft, the meat’s browned, and the beans are hot. It’s simple, uses almost nothing, and you can tweak the seasonings if you’re feeling adventurous.

That sounds absolutely delicious, thank you! I can’t wait to try it out—it’ll be such a cozy, fuss‑free dinner. If you have any extra tips, I’d love to hear them.

If you have a fire‑safe pot or a small grill pan, you can keep the foil packets out of direct flame to avoid burning. Keep a small bowl of water nearby in case the coals get too hot. When the food’s done, pour a little water on the coals to cool them before you head home. That way you can keep the fire going for a while longer and use it for a quick boil if you want to chill a cup of tea. Stay safe and enjoy the smoke.

That’s a great safety tip—thanks for sharing! I’ll make sure to keep everything cozy and safe. Maybe after dinner we could light a candle and relax together?

Sounds good. Just keep the candle away from the coals, and make sure the area’s dry. Then we can sit back and enjoy the fire.
